Visibilize4ClimateAction is a consortium funded by Wellcome that seeks to catalyze climate action at scale in East Africa, with a particular focus on the interlinkages between climate and health. The initiative is led by the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in collaboration with a diverse consortium of partners.
These include CIFOR-ICRAF, the University of Nairobi, PELUM Kenya, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the University of Oxford, Loughborough University, Makerere University (Uganda), Mekelle University (Ethiopia), and Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania). The consortium works closely with the national and county governments, such as Laikipia, Samburu, and Turkana.
Together, this partnership brings a wealth of expertise in research, policy, and practice to advance evidence-based solutions for climate resilience, sustainable food systems, and improved health outcomes across the region.
Our Mission
To advance evidence-based climate action in East Africa by bridging research, policy, and practice, focusing on the critical connections between climate change and human health to create sustainable, resilient communities.
Our Vision
A climate-resilient East Africa where communities thrive in healthy environments, supported by robust science, effective policies, and collaborative action that addresses the interconnected challenges of climate change and public health.
Our Strategic Objectives

Deepen understanding of how climate change affects health, including nutrition, food security, and mental wellbeing.
2
Promote climate-resilient practices that protect health and strengthen food systems.
3
Support policies and partnerships that link climate action with better health outcomes.
“Climate change is not just an environmental crisis, it's a health crisis. Climate change is everyone’s story. Health is the face of climate change. Health conversations must be part of the story around climate change.”

Zero Hunger
Through the connection between climate and food systems, the initiative advocates for climate-smart agriculture and improved food security. These efforts help ensure sustainable nutrition and support communities vulnerable to climate-induced hunger.
3
Good Health and Well-being
Visibilize Climate Action highlights how climate change affects health through impacts on nutrition, mental health, and disease patterns. By increasing awareness and promoting adaptation, the initiative contributes to protecting and improving community health and wellbeing.
6
Clean Water and Sanitation
Climate change directly impacts water resources. Visibilize Climate Action works to raise awareness on how changing climate patterns affect water access and quality, inspiring solutions for sustainable water management.
7
Affordable and Clean Energy
By promoting mitigation strategies and low-carbon development, the initiative supports the transition toward clean, affordable, and renewable energy solutions that reduce emissions and protect human health.
